He says that the myth of people needing to just work a little harder to escape poverty, his life proves that is a lie. He and his family have worked hard all of their lives and remained poor.
Following construction job loss, divorce, high childcare costs trying to find new work, he fell into homelessness. Through a shelter provider, he was able to get a VASH voucher that provided him with stable housing for the first time in his life.
At hearing today on affordable housing needs in IN, a veteran shared his story of multi-generational poverty: how multiple moves due to evictions as a child affected his education, which affected his economic mobility into adulthood. *thread*
