A vulnerable woman with an intellectual disability was sexually assaulted in a swimming pool steam room.

The offender received a reduced sentence after the court considered the “difficulties for a foreign national serving a sentence in this jurisdiction”.

Let us speak plainly.

Rape is rape.

The nationality of the offender should never reduce the punishment for such a crime.

The victim in this case lives with the consequences for life. Yet the system found space to reduce a sentence because the offender was a foreign national.

That principle is wrong.

Our justice system must stand firmly with victims. The law must send a clear signal. Anyone who commits serious violent or sexual crime in this country faces the full consequences of the law.

No special considerations. No special treatment.

I will be raising this issue directly with the Minister for Justice. Irish people deserve answers.

Victims must come first.

BREAKING: Teacher Enoch Burke thrown into prison van and moved suddenly to Castlerea Prison

On Sunday morning teacher Enoch Burke was told to gather his belongings and bring them to a prison van. He was then put into the van and brought on a two-and-a-half-hour journey to a new location, Castlerea Prison.

At no point was he told where he was being brought, or for what reason.

Upon arrival in Castlerea Prison he was consigned to a filthy committal landing. Prison authorities told him he was being given a job “in the kitchen.”

Enoch Burke has a job. He is a teacher of German and History at Wilson’s Hospital School. He was taken from that job in 2022 and thrown into a prison cell by corrupt judges after he refused to endorse transgender ideology. His incarceration is an abomination.

Enoch Burke’s removal from Mountjoy Prison is a violation of the order of Judge Brian Cregan of 19 January. That order specifically stated that Enoch Burke was to be detained in Mountjoy Prison in Dublin until further order of the High Court:

“AND IT IS ORDERED that the Defendant be conveyed by the Commissioner and Members of An Garda Síochána to Mountjoy Prison and that he thereupon be lodged in Mountjoy Prison to be detained therein until he purges his contempt and is discharged pursuant to further Order of this Court”.

There has been no further order. Enoch Burke, an innocent man, is now detained in Castlerea Prison without lawful authority.

The removal to Castlerea Prison is deeply prejudicial to Enoch Burke as he is now over two hours from the courts where cases relating to his unjust incarceration are ongoing.

Today Dr Isaac Burke raised this urgent matter before Judge Brian Cregan in the High Court.

Judge Cregan prevaricated and obfuscated in response. He denied any knowledge of the development and showed little interest in the violation by the prison authorities of his own order.

It is a dangerous state of affairs when a matter of this importance, the unlawful detention of an innocent man, can be taken so lightly by a High Court Judge.

Our rape gang inquiry released a statement this morning detailing the most brutal suffering anyone could imagine on an innocent young woman - if you have not read it, I urge you to go and digest it. People need to understand what has happened, and is still happening.

I sat for two hours, listening to that brave woman.

It was one of the most harrowing experiences of my life.

Before our hearings, I did not think it was possible for one human to inflict such evil onto another human.

It is.

We have requested a meeting with the Home Secretary, so that Mahmood can hear what we have heard. So that she can finally understand.

The individual who came forward is amongst the bravest women I have ever met. Just remarkable courage that I hold such respect for.

Every single person who has come forward to tell their story is a hero in my eyes.
