We all know what it's like to be told to be less. "She said she had been told it would be best if she could be 50% less than she was. That was the quote, if she could be 50% less. I said to her, 'I don't know how you're going to survive, being half of yourself'." @oprah#IWD2021

What's the worst advice you got when you started in UX?
I'll go first: "Just make something up. No one listens to this sh*t anyways."

@DougCollinsUX It's impossible to do UX in a silo. UX is complex problem solving at it's core, and it requires multiple perspectives, diversity of thought and the business leaders to be on board to allow for meaningful change.
Human-centered #design has 4 principles: understand the problem, the people, and the system, and do iterative design. But what if you don't have time to do all 4 steps? https://t.co/btFz6lnrZx #UX#designprocess
Yes! I’ve been pulled off projects because I’m not ‘engaged’ in group conversations with 8+ people all spinning in circles. How does it makes sense to contribute to chaos when I can take a step back and actually think vs add to the noise? #culture#agencylife#bias
Does being a quiet personality or being slow to speak really indicate I'm not "proactive" or not a "leader"? And yet I continually encounter this bias. It's a LOT of work to present as vocal and confident. The act is exhausting. I can do the job, I just do it differently.
Super pumped to be joining 120 other UX pros for @NNgroup#VirtualConference2020. Next up on the menu: Discovery Research. Because concepts are best served fully cooked 👌🏻
Wasn’t even scared until all the grocery stores started clearing out. I’m not afraid of COVID19 but what is scary, is the lack of common sense people have. I’m scared for people who actually need to go to the store & feed their fams but Susan and Karen stocked up for 30 years.
👉 You may not use the word #customer. You may say client, beneficiary, member, student, or stakeholder.
That doesn't matter. It's more important to understand the people you’re working to serve. 👈

@IamHenrikM@SekaiFarai 1.) leadership has one foot in traditional ways of thinking + comfort levels & another in this ‘we need to innovate-here’s what’s popular’
2.) ltd understanding of the craft itself
Which is caused by 3) a lack of consistency/ regulation of what a UXR actually is
Is ‘Evangelism’ the new UX research buzzword?
After mtg w/ several hiring UXRs it’s clear the need to ‘sell’ research starts w/ convincing the internal team it’s value. So, their need isn’t for a UXR - it’s for someone to coach & reorg their teams around the practice itself. 🧐
@uxstrategy @danielkrahnke Ah! I was just talking about this w/ a colleague today. Solving for symptoms eliminates the op for true value to your users. They know what they’re feeling - it’s up to us to understand #WHY, and solve for THAT. This is the core of #CX.
"One of the most common issues I see is that websites are created for an internal stakeholder instead of the end user. Whether you’re a B2B or B2C company, the end user is the person who is going to be interacting with your solution." #uxdesign#ux 👇 https://t.co/aRNcXq3PjK
