THE POWER OF THANKSGIVING

Text: John 6:1–11

One of the most powerful things about this story is that Jesus gave thanks before the miracle happened.

The Bible says there were about 5,000 men, not counting women and children. The need was great, but the available supply was small.

It was not enough.

But Jesus took what was available, gave thanks, and what was not enough became more than enough.

This teaches us something powerful:

Thanksgiving is not only for when everything is perfect. Thanksgiving is also an expression of faith in the God who can multiply what is in your hands.

2. THANKSGIVING CHANGES YOUR FOCUS FROM THE SIZE OF THE PROBLEM TO THE GREATNESS OF GOD

4. THANKSGIVING IS A RESPONSE TO GOD, NOT JUST TO CIRCUMSTANCES

5. THANKSGIVING CAN TURN YOUR LITTLE INTO A TESTIMONY

6. THERE WAS MORE THAN ENOUGH AFTER THE THANKSGIVING

THE POWERFUL LESSON

The miracle did not begin when the bread multiplied.

The miracle began when Jesus gave thanks.

The situation had not changed.

The crowd was still hungry.

The bread was still small.

The need was still great.

But thanksgiving came before the multiplication.

And when your posture changes, your faith rises.

When your faith rises, you begin to see possibilities where you once saw impossibilities.

CONCLUSION

John 6 teaches us that God does not always need much to do much.

He can take:

A small beginning and create a great future.

A little money and provide.

A small opportunity and open greater doors.

A broken heart and restore it.

A simple prayer and answer it.

A little faith and produce a miracle.

So today, before you complain about what is missing, take a moment to thank God for what is present.

Before you cry about what you don't have, thank God for what He has preserved.

Before you ask for another blessing, look around and acknowledge the blessings already in your life.

Because sometimes, the miracle is hidden inside the thing you have been calling “not enough.”

Your five loaves may not look like much.

Your two fishes may not seem sufficient.

But when you place them in the hands of Jesus and give thanks, God can multiply them.

Don't wait for the multiplication before you give thanks.

Give thanks, and trust God with the multiplication.
