When I was in St Bartholomews (Barts) being treated for cryptococcal meningitis, as an AIDS patient, the nurses would wheel me out into the beautiful garden square, and it was something I always looked forward to, as did everyone else. The restorative powers of being outside for even just a short spell as a long-term patient can’t be overstated.
