There’s a lot of confusion around sugar and stomach cancer. Let’s clear things up:
🍎 Both healthy cells and cancer cells use sugar (from carbohydrates) for energy. That includes carbs from fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and even dairy.
❌ Some people believe cutting out all sugar will stop cancer cells from growing—but scientific evidence does not support this.
🥦 If you eat no carbohydrates, your body will break down fat and muscle for energy. This can leave you depleted, especially if you’re already struggling to eat enough.
💡 A very low-carb diet can deprive you of important energy, fibre, and vitamins—things your body needs to stay strong during treatment.
✅ Focus on nourishing yourself with balanced meals. Always talk with your care team before making big dietary changes.

Pancreatic enzyme replacement (PERT) is a lifesaving, essential med for those with severe digestive issues. Malnutrition from prolonged shortage requires expensive, intrusive artificial nutrition support at far greater cost to the NHS @10DowningStreet@DHSCgovuk@wesstreeting
I've worked with the @NHSuk and @JKDhesi to learn more about the importance of increasing fitness levels before surgery and how staying active before surgery can reduce complications and speed up recovery.
I've also create some exercise videos for people who are waiting for surgery, to help them recover quicker 🙌 @GeriSoc
