I know nolan can suck when it comes to female characters but heath ledger was the only nolan actor (man or woman) to be nominated before oppenheimer lol
tbh this “Black best friend” critique does strike me as vaguely racist on her part to reduce all those characters to that particular label especially since she doesn’t even really bother to directly support it
A lot of her fair points and interesting criticism gets lost in the fact that she clearly holds a *lot* of contempt for Nolan as a director and person? Like I read her full review, and it comes off oddly personal
@resurrecti0ns I trust her to be a great translator and historical academic, and I trust Nolan to make an amazing movie - these two things do not need to be at odds.
@EmmaVigeland Exactly. This is just a normal day for a classicist reviewing an adaptation. I’m surprised people are shocked by the bluntness. Even the most good faith, open minded classicist would need to resist the temptation to become overly fastidious in their scrutiny & nitpicking.
