If you’ve been unjustly wronged, not only should you seek justice for yourself, you should try to make sure the perpetrators can’t do it again to anyone else
Good
Btw the court filings are eye-opening. It's obvious DOJ didn't follow its own rules, and when the NYT called them out on their clownish bullshit, DOJ's response was basically nuh-uh we did comply (no actual details) + plz give us 2 weeks

BREAKING: Feds withdraw NYT subpoenas into reporting on Qatar-gifted jet
The government called the subpoenas to reporters' family members an “error.” https://t.co/tdLjGXpvbq
Knowing Barnes from his very progressive lawmaker days, it’s so funny to me to watch him get painted as some establishment candidate
It’s just that he’s the much stronger general election candidate (he’s also a good guy generally)
Do lefties want to just fight or actually WIN
Marquette Law School has a sterling track record (VoteHub Pollster Rating: A+), and these numbers will do little to ease Democratic concerns about Francesca Hong's general election strength.
🔵 Mandela Barnes +4 vs. Tom Tiffany
🔴 Francesca Hong -3 vs. Tom Tiffany
The real debate over the '28 Dem primary lineup:
Swing states where candidates must be broadly appealing to all racial groups to succeed in the primary AND general
vs
States where primary candidates need to appeal to only 1 racial group (ie, how to rank the groups in "BIPOC")
“I’m a Black mama whose children are Black and Latino, Native American,” says @NVDemsChair. “My grandchildren are Black, Latino, Native American and A.A.P.I. That’s who Nevada is.”
At this point, it's pretty funny to watch progressives demanding that a missing Republican senator be immediately replaced by a younger and inevitably Republican senator who'll energetically vote no on all their priorities
Andy Beshear is demonstrating why voters are pushing out incumbent democrats. What a pathetic response to covering up McConnell’s death. “I haven’t heard anything”. Dude get off your fucking ass and go down to the hospital. Cause a fucking scene. We’re tired of this shit.
Holding the South Carolina and Nevada primary elections (or more) on the same day would be extremely expensive for the candidates
So the race would be tilted even more to candidates who can fundraise vast sums early, not upstarts trying to build a grassroots base
I haven’t seen The Odyssey yet but one of the big lessons is pretty obvious:
If you embrace brute strength and violence to slaughter innocents in violation of the law, you karmically invite it being done onto you because there’s always someone bigger and more powerful
Odysseus and his men didn’t even get a chance to figure anything out in that island of giants. Enemies came out with pure violence. No words exchanged. It was like when you start a video game and you accidentally go into a high level area that you shouldn’t be in at all.
@yuanyi_z It’s easy to understand. That lefty faction’s identitarian project isn’t to dismantle de facto racial caste systems and end unfair state punishment based on group identity
Their project is to switch discrimination against “those” groups to “these” groups (such as East Asians)
I’m reminded of the idea that death is humanity’s final safeguard against the perpetual concentration of power in evil
The price we pay for it is the pain of losing our loved ones to oblivion
Anyway the authorities should investigate what’s going on here because wtf
Imagine whining about struggling while spending $90,000 on private school and $9000 on vacations every year and having $46,000 left over to save *each year*
People like this doing their best to negatively polarize the American electorate into joining the DSA lol
So you think earning $408,000 a year is a lot of money?
After working 50+ hours a week, being stressed out of your mind, and barely seeing your kids, it might not be the dream income you imagined.
Look how quickly the money goes. $1/month left over.
What would you cut?
If you don't have the societal power and superior status that you expected from your college degree, how you can still grab power and status for yourself:
Go around policing people's thought crimes, especially on culture war issues
All unchecked forms of power result in abuses
In today's newsletter, I argue this is the sweet spot for the DSA. DSA members are *very* college-educated (80% BA+) but *not* particularly well-off (45% HHI incomes below $60K). Their class status is ambiguous. But they tend to be very liberal on culture as well as economics.
Unfortunately, a lot of woke nonsense is actually just lying low and many of its loudest proponents are still in power
It's been amusing to watch progressives/Dems viciously rail against 2020 deniers who can't answer "who won 2020!?" while ignoring the lunacy on their own side
@daveweigel Honestly I think Rs are doing a favor to Dems with the war on woke. It allows Dems to clear the woke decks and move on to more favorable issue territory. Notice Dems aren't pushing back on any of this stuff.
I'm a Dem. My theory is this singular obsession also contributes to the public perception that the Dem Party is the country's HR dept—the people you complain to about health care benefits & paperwork
But they're not the deciders on the big stuff. In other words, woke and weak
The left/Dem obsession with health care is really weird as an electoral consideration.
The median voter is, like, 60 years old, so half the voters already have universal health care. Overall, 90% of voters have health insurance. The system may be annoying, but it works for most people.
Somehow this proposal achieves the exceptional in politics by simultaneously appealing to blue collar workers, labor unions, management-side employer interests, white collar pro-housing advocates, anti-tax conservatives, pro-social-insurance liberals
That doesn't happen often!
I have a new piece out for @SearchlightInst!
Want to make housing cheaper? Stop taxing construction so heavily for being a volatile industry
Our unemployment insurance system quietly makes it more expensive to build.
Here’s how: (1/12)
My impression is that many in the DC/NY political staffer class have no idea how bleak things are out there for some Americans. Just utterly bleak.
Republicans in Congress & President Trump cut SNAP (food stamps) last year to help pay for more tax breaks for the rich
This proposal would mean
(1) the end of burner phones (like those used by reporters' confidential sources), and
(2) the creation of a centralized surveillance database where every American's identity is tied to a phone line
What could go wrong

DMV gang — we have another 24-36 hours of hazardous air quality.
I know the masks seem silly, but the visibilities don’t lie. The air is full of microscopic particulates.
You’d use a mask if you were in Delhi or Beijing. Treat this the same.
