Hey @OurCommons, no tea no shade, but the female/male binary refers to one's sex, and not gender. Always more than happy to discuss why this is important.
One of the attitudes I test a lot in my academic research is the answer to this item:
‘I believe women and girls should report all instances of male violence in order to protect other women and girls from the same perpetrator’
I usually follow this up with the next item:

La régression des droits des étudiants 2ELGBTQI+ du N-B. est alarmante.
Comme la nouvelle mouture de la politique 713 n’entrera en vigueur qu’au 1er juillet, @KPateontheHill et moi espérons que sera reconsidérée la disposition traitant du droit à l’auto-identification.

Want more women to run for office? Then make Canada's legislative workplaces more inclusive. @tracey_raney & @JeanetteAshe have identified some reforms that could make a huge difference.

Sometimes, sexism is pretty flagrant, and yet it stays under the radar for much too long.
Canada's women's soccer team is badass and deserves to be treated - at the very least - as well as the men's team.
@CanadaSoccerEN, do better.

A fact that has stuck with me since I’ve learned it, in part because it’s so disturbing, is that some of the first suicide prevention strategies were developed in response to African captives dying by suicide on slave ships.
Hello hello 👋 #IWD2023 is nearly here, and so are companies' cut-and-paste platitudes. And once again we're bringing you the data to see whose support for #InternationalWomensDay is genuine, and who's still got work to do.
Here's a reminder of how it works ⬇️ (1/8)

This is sadly yet another example of my findings on Canadian mayors' digital gender performance. A woman politician's appearance is not an invitation for feedback. https://t.co/Rbhvx7ejtF
📣 New on First View 🌟 'Don't Put Color in Your Hair..': 🇨🇦Canadian Mayors' Mixed Gender Performance on Social Media' @Kath_Sully finds that 🇨🇦 mayors demonstrate mixed gender performance online but ♀️ work under added constraints due to their gender https://t.co/pbGXSCNkt1
Delighted to share that my second thesis article was published in @PoliticsGenderJ today! I examined Canadian mayors' gender performance on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Overall, women mayors still work under added constraints & a greater mental load.

Friendly reminder: female refers to one's sex and woman to one's gender. In French, a woman politician is a "politicienne" or even a "femme en politique". The French equivalent of "female" is "femelle", which is used to refer to animals.
In conclusion, women didn't "gain" the right to vote in Canada. It was a right that was stripped and finally given back years of women's rights activism. Also, the right to vote was generally reserved to white, privileged women.
