So many wonderful people are doing so much to assist communities affected by the Californian wildfires. Hats off to @RedCross whose staff and volunteers continue to dedicate themselves to service despite being affected themselves. That's Red Cross- fast, effective and local.
Nearly 900 California wildfire evacuees woke up in Red Cross shelters Monday morning, many of whom are struggling after losing everything. Thankfully, more than 350 of our dedicated disaster responders and volunteers are on the ground, ensuring no one has to navigate this heartbreaking time alone. Together with our partners, we’re providing food, shelter, emotional support, and other essential services to those in need.
The threat isn’t over — fire weather conditions remain critical this week. Now is the time for people to remain vigilant, be prepared to evacuate and follow instructions from local officials. We want people to know that our shelters are a safe place for everyone. No ID is required, and you don’t have to stay overnight to receive help.
As Californians cope with the trauma and massive destruction of the wildfires, we want them to know that they're not alone. To everyone who has supported our relief efforts — whether through donations or by signing up to become a volunteer — thank you. Your compassion is making a difference.
Brilliant experience accompanying @vanuaturedcross and partner agencies to distribute essentials on behalf of Vanuatu Society for People with Disability. Volunteers and staff all lent a hand to load trucks bound for Mele, where we met families affected by the recent earthquake.
The Cook Islands Met Service has just reported a downgrading of Tropical Cyclone Pita to a Tropical Low. Southern outer islands and Rarotonga still have strong wind and heavy swell warnings with a chance of inundation. Stay safe all. #tcpita#cookislands
I have just spoken to the Secretary Genral of Cook Islands Red Cross.
We are tracking TC Pita as its charting a course for Rarotonga.
The team will take advance action - helping vulnerable households. Their training hall is a purpose built evacuation centre if required. #tcpita
Thanks to partners like @ECHO_Asia, @vanuaturedcross is able to be fast, effective and consistent in their ongoing response to community need after the devastating Earquake in Vanuatu on December 17. This support is much appreciated.
A powerful earthquake affected 40% of Vanuatu’s population last month. This is how the EU helped:
✅EUR 600,000 humanitarian aid
✅emergency satellite mapping
✅environmental expertise from 🇩🇪
✅water purification stations, tool kits, solar lamps from 🇫🇷

Wildfires & winter storms across the US are stark reminders to prevent & prepare for emergencies. Make a plan. Write down important phone numbers and medications. Download emergency apps and set up alerts. Listen to fire and law enforcement authorities. Be aware.
Amazing work from @vanuaturedcross and the Restoring Family Links team providing support for families displaced by landslides and reporting missing loved ones.

The journey to deliver relief to far-flung, so called "last mile" villages is never easy. Rain drenched roads turn into swamps, and every step is a challenge. Even so, the @vanuaturedcross team pushes on. As much as delivering relief, they deliver hope and the knowledge we care.
Taking a little time to prepare an emergency kit can make all the difference when disaster strikes.
Think water, first aid supplies & other essentials your family might need.

As @vanuaturedcross assess community needs and distribute vital resources such as water, hygiene kits and equipment to fix dwellings, they are also seeing a lot of fear and trauma. Teams refresh psychological first aid skills before the day begins so they can listen and assist.

Thank you ICRC and IFRC.
@vanuaturedcross teams have been out in communities today to provide support and hear more about immediate needs in the aftermath of Tuesday's earthquake. Trucking water, providing first aid, providing for emergency shelter needs. Making sure the most vulnerable are prioritised.
