People seem very confused about “digital ID”.

It is not the same thing as carrying ID cards that people have in the EU. It is a wholly different beast.

It means you have a number. An identifier. Your ability to do anything can be turned off by the government at any time.

Whether that is taking a flight, buying something on Amazon or sending a parcel.

Whether that is looking at the internet, opening a bank account or accessing the NHS.

In the EU, we are rapidly moving towards a digital ID. The EU is pushing companies like Amazon to require it to make purchases or Facebook to “verify” your account. Right now it is voluntary and works mainly across government agencies - healthcare, mail service, tax authorities. But in due course it won’t be voluntary.

It does absolutely nothing to stop illegal migrants from entering the country or working in the black economy.

@Jklunden The whole point is that the halal lunch doesn't discriminate between either? I don't like vegetarian meals, but I understand that when my workplace serves them that it's for the common good of the majority, not an attack on MY personal preference. Grow up 👍

I feel huge sympathy for London bus drivers during the tube strike. Buses packed,frustrated passengers and then knowing that London Tube drivers earn roughly double the average of bus drivers—£65,000–£70,000 vs. £32,000–£34,000 annually.

@MaryLouMcDonald I'm 24 and abroad for the year. Coming back to complete my masters next year. Was disgusted to find I couldn't vote from here ! It's still my home, the place I'll be educated,I'll rent and buy and have kids. And I get no say? Because I had to go elsewhere for opportunities?!
