14 groups emerged and with help from our brilliant Community Health Workers (CHWs) they were able to get a glimpse of life in Mukuru’s alleyways. The students got to briefly experience the different challenges as well as insights of human rights injustices faced by community
academic field study in a bid to get a better understanding of life in informal settlements. Led by their lecturer Mr. Richard Kakeeto, the cohort was split into various factions of different social economic challenges faced by members of the Mukuru community.
In a span of two weeks a second group of 74 students partaking Development Studies from the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) paid a visit to the Ruben Centre. Similar to the last visit by their counterparts, this duty call was part of the students’

In a month, a Mukuru resident will spend about ksh 1050 on water compared to other city residents who spend an average of ksh 206.
