@Kbennettt19 I agree. Autotune can be a helpful tool for artists, but if it makes that much of a difference in someone's voice that they aren't enjoyable to listen to without it, you could definitely argue that can be used excessively in some cases. #S22POPMUS
@BesmahTepagende Exactly! While prerecorded tracks will of course sound much more polished and satisfying to the ear, the experience of seeing an artist you love live and the fun atmosphere of a concert is really hard to beat. #S22POPMUS
I dont agree with Walds assessment that fans nowadays prefer recordings over live music. If someone is a big enough fan to go and see an artist live, i would think that just seeing them in person would be an unbeatable experience, even if they sounded a little different #S22POPMUS
@UpshallJessica2 I agree that credit should always be given no matter what. However, I imagine it still must be pretty disheartening for the original artist when a cheap cover that adds virtually nothing of value outsells your original work, like what happened with "Tutti Fruitti" #S22POPMUS
@BlakeZoeFrance1 I really agree with your point of using Schlock music to broaden our understanding of musical history. The cultural theft Schlock artists committed was horrible, but if we don't understand why it was so horrible then we really learnt nothing from it. #S22POPMUS
Even though schlock music is guilty of cultural theft, it is still a piece of musical history. Dismissing the "ugly" parts of musical history makes it easier for the same mistakes to be repeated by artists today- schlock music should be remembered, but not praised. #S22POPMUS
@HaqueTasnimah I agree! It really is mind blowing to think that we have access to millions of songs at just the click of a button! It really puts into perspective how lucky we are to be living in a time where we can access any song imaginable for free. #S22POPMUS
@brianna92121112 I agree with your point on streaming services helping to develop our personal taste. Spotify's "Weekly Discover" playlists have introduced me to so many great musicians and genres I never would have found otherwise. #S22POPMUS
Bluetooth technology has really changed how we listen to music in regards to convenience. Bluetooth headphones eliminate having to deal with tangled or shoddy headphone wires, making listening to music on the go that much easier. #S22POPMUS
@UpshallJessica2 I agree! Art is anything that we create that holds meaning to us; there's no metric to determine if something is too dumbed down to be considered art. What may seem dumbed down to us could hold an entirely different meaning to someone else. #S22POPMUS
@mr_mmercer @nareekrecrem I agree that relating to Adorno and Horkheimer's ideas may be difficult today. It feels unfair to hold today's music to the standard of a book written over 50 years ago. Culture changes and evolves significantly over just 10 years, let alone 50! #S22POPMUS
Popular music is dumbed down, but not for nefarious reasons as Adorno and Horkheimer believe. Such songs are often upbeat & lack thought-provoking lyrics. This allows them to serve as effective background noise, getting them lots of air time, hence making them popular. #S22POPMUS
