#UPEN
Whilst our Mayors are in Downing Street discussing the #CouncilforRegionsandNations - here in Leeds we’re convening the @PolicyUpen Devolved and Regional conference on the future of #devolution and #academic policy engagement.
Could we have timed this better? 🤭
Thanks for inviting me to reflect on learnings from @PolicyUpen@CAPE_acuk & @Y_PERN_ on regional academic policy engagement.
English #Devolution is both a challenge & an exciting opportunity - the time is now to shape it.
(What a privilege to speak after @JPMarksCB!)
A huge thanks to @JPMarksCB for an engaging Q&A on his role as Permanent Secretary to the Scottish Government at today's Policy Academy session, and also to @Kayleigh_RF for her insightful overview of the work of @Y_PERN_ in the Yorkshire and Humber region
Walking into our 2023 UPEN Conference, you'd find a packed hall of knowledge mobilisers working at the academic-policy interface, reflecting honestly about their challenges, triumphs, and ambitions for the future 💡

Top tips from panellists for local authorities interested in developing ARI:
1️⃣ Call it a pilot
2️⃣ Keep objectives small and realistic to begin with
3️⃣ Be clear on the topic(s) area that the local authority is actively researching/engaged in.
Pleasure to be on this @PolicyUpen panel with WM REDI, Insights NorthEast and Welsh Centre for Public Policy, discussing local and regional academic policy engagement!
Great commitment to share learning, and understand where we can overcome common challenges.
