Bit overdue: I defended my Master of Science thesis.
Grad school was a rewarding journey. It was a stark reminder about the fragility of human life - of love & loss.
Thank you @UofTIMS, funders @PSIFoundation@CIHR_IRSC, partners @SOGCorg@BORNOntario for the support.

Partnering with former IMS students @KayvanAflaki and @peck_s_s, who are helping us lead the Healthcare Innovation Challenge as alumni advisors, demonstrates the transformative impact students can make during their studies and beyond. https://t.co/Vbp3PpNLj1
At the core of my MSc thesis was the use of latent class analysis. Now, the foundation of my research with @UofTIMS is published!
Thank you to my collaborators and to @JOGC_Social for providing a platform to share this work.
Give it a read here ๐ https://t.co/VZL4zLYG4O
Check out this important work, published in this monthโs issue of Obstetric Medicine. Thanks to all the collaborators from my alma mater @UofTIMS for bringing this to life!
The important work needed for a confidential enquiry system in Canada never ends.

I got to see, firsthand, how the world collaborates on matters of science and survival in the most inhospitable fringes of the world.
The Antarctic represents how we steward the planet, our pursuit of knowledge, and how we collectively write the human story.

For the past month, I was a ๐จ๐ฆ attachรฉ to the Chilean Navy.
Together, we travelled through the Magellan into Antarctica, where we resupplied research facilities with fuel, food & medical care.
We retraced the voyages of Drake, Darwin & Magellan to the ends of the Earth ๐ (1/2)
I recently finished the Mt. Finlayson 28k. I'm proud of myself for making it across the finish line. It was a challenge but the views were worth it! ๐โโ๏ธ
Thank you @coastlinerun and volunteers for organizing.
An important read about persistent opioid use postpartum. This study sheds some light on whether initiation of oxycodone after delivery is assoc. w/ an increased risk of persistent opioid use relative to codeine.
Thoughtfully written by a great team & former collaborators ๐
The risk of opioid addiction prompted Drs. Joel Ray, Muhammad Mamdani and colleagues to study how prescribing Oxycodone for pain after childbirth has resulted in some mothers continuing to use the drugs for weeks and months afterward. #IMSFaculty https://t.co/u5OKLLL5T2

Canada does not have a national system to report on maternal mortality. There's plenty to learn from existing systems around the world. @uoftmedicine@UofTIMS

Fantastic discussion from the panel of leading experts at the Health Infrastructure: A New Way to Care event run by @TheHealthInnovC & @rawtalkpodcast. Up next is the pitches from the Healthcare Innovation Challenge 2023 finalists!
I recently finished basic military officer training, and received top candidate.
Learned a lot about myself; of individual purpose in a collective cause.
Looking forward to what's ahead, while staying true to my love for clinical research and science โ๏ธโ๏ธ๐ฆ
At @UofTIMS Scientific Day in April, I was presented with the Whiteside Award. I owe this honour to my PI, Dr. Ray & faculty at the IMS.
I wasn't able to attend the ceremony, but I'll be back soon to celebrate with friends & family!
Thanks IMS & @uoftmedicine for having me ๐ฌ
Congratulations to Kayvan Aflaki for receiving the IMS Whiteside Award 2023 for his Master's thesis on โA Retrospective Review of Maternal Mortality in Ontarioโ that was completed in partnership with the Ontario Coroner, BORN Ontario & Health Canada. https://t.co/ohP73I88jM
Insightful read by a prolific clinician-scientist and mentor @UofTIMS@uoftmedicine@UnityHealthTO
Dr. Rayโs mentorship and passion for research propelled me through my MSc.
Amazing to see his work make headlines on @CTVNews!
"Immigrant females who are healthier and more resilient may be most capable of migration; the immigration policy of a host country may preferentially select healthy immigrants," wrote Dr. Joel Ray, one of the study's co-authors. #IMSFaculty https://t.co/dHXlqA7mpB
