Resilience of education systems is a key focus of the SDG 4 HLSC's 2026–2027 mandate. We asked HLSC leaders: what does resilience mean, and why is it critical for SDG 4 by 2030 and beyond?
@UNICEF's @unicefchief, Catherine Russell, reminds us that 2030 is just one step along the way and that building resilient education systems able to withstand shocks is how we protect children's learning well into the future.

How can conflict thousands of miles away affect what’s on our plates?
Three critical trade routes are under pressure, disrupting the flow of food, fuel and fertilizer - driving up costs and putting harvests at risk.

Some stories are more difficult to tell than others.
In Kenya 🇰🇪, we documented the realities of gender-based violence, the women who have experienced it and the UN Volunteers working to end it.

Please, just trust the timing of your life. You don’t have to have it all figured out by a certain age. you don’t have to chase a version of success that does not inspire you. You just have to learn about yourself. You have to keep doing the work not just physically, but emotionally. You have to learn about who you are on a foundational level, you have to understand what you deeply value, what ignites your soul, what makes you want to get up in the morning, and you have to choose that every single day. You have to stand up for it. You have to leap towards that hope, even when it’s scary, even when you’re the only one dreaming in that direction.
One sad truth about life is that you may not even be part of the future you’re stressing about. We lose sleep trying to control years we were never promised, while barely appreciating the day already in our hands. Plan wisely, but don’t forget to live. Tomorrow matters, but today is the only life you actually have.
I respect people who are actively trying to grow. Not the ones pretending, but the ones doing the work quietly. Because life isn’t easy, and choosing to improve yourself takes effort most people avoid. It means facing uncomfortable truths, breaking patterns, and staying consistent even when no one is watching. That deserves recognition. In a world where it’s easier to blame others or stay stuck, growth is a decision. And the people who make that decision, again and again, are the ones who slowly build a life they’re actually proud of.
Don't ever feel ashamed of your journey.
Everyone gets humbled by life at some point. Losing a job, getting your heart broken, starting over, or hitting rock bottom doesn't make you weak.
It builds resilience, reveals your true strength, and reminds you that every setback is part of your growth.
The older I get, the more I understand it’s better to be a wolf everyone respects from a distance than a donkey everyone rides. You don’t have to be liked by everyone to live a meaningful life. The moment you stop living to earn approval, you stop volunteering to be used. I’d rather stand alone with my dignity than be surrounded by people who only value me for what they can take.
Sometimes a man has to make a decision that breaks his heart but gives him peace for the rest of his life. Not every painful choice is a mistake, and not everything you love is meant to stay. Some doors must be closed with tears so your future can finally breathe. A broken heart can heal. A disturbed spirit will keep costing you.
The older you get, the more you realize that peace is not found in having everything, it is found in appreciating what you already have. There will always be something more to chase, another goal to reach, or another comparison waiting to steal your joy. But true contentment comes when you pause long enough to recognize the blessings already in front of you, the people who care, the lessons you've learned, and the life you've built through both struggles and victories. Sometimes, peace begins the moment gratitude becomes greater than desire.
I hope something makes you smile today. Because I know there are battles you fight quietly and things you carry that nobody sees. So I hope, even for a few seconds, you feel lighter. You deserve moments that feel like proof that life can still be beautiful.
You deserve a life where your joy does not depend on someone else’s mood. You deserve mornings that do not begin with worry. You deserve conversations that do not leave you doubting your own mind. You deserve to feel safe in the life you are building.
Sometimes the biggest obstacle standing between you and your goals is not a lack of ability, but the fear of not knowing exactly how everything will happen. Many people wait until they have the perfect plan, complete knowledge, or complete certainty before they take the first step. But the truth is that clarity often comes through action. You do not always discover the path before you begin walking it. You do not need to have every answer today.
You are not every thought that enters your mind. The voice replaying conversations, fearing judgment, and asking what everyone thinks is only a pattern of thought. You are the awareness noticing it. Once you understand that, you stop allowing every anxious thought to control your behavior and every opinion to determine your value.
The day you stop seeing yourself through the opinions of other people is the day you finally meet yourself. You were given two eyes for a reason use them to witness your own life, not to search every face for approval. Stop asking permission to become who you already know you are. Your life was never meant to be lived through someone else’s judgment.
God wants you to let go of constantly measuring your worth in a way that makes you feel down. You’re enough and you are loved, exactly as you are. Your spiritual heart already knows this. So drop in, awaken and remember that you are exactly where you’re meant to be, and that you are whole and complete, as is.
Stop waiting for life to become easy before you allow yourself to live. That day is never coming. There will always be another bill to pay. Another disappointment to survive. Another person who lets you down. Another plan that falls apart. Another chapter that demands more from you than you think you have. If your definition of peace is "a life without problems," you will spend your entire life chasing something that doesn't exist.
The people who look the strongest aren't the ones who were spared pain. They're the ones who got knocked down, buried in disappointment, betrayed by people they trusted, exhausted by responsibilities, and still refused to become angry at the world. Life doesn't owe you comfort. It doesn't promise fairness. It doesn't guarantee that good people will always be rewarded or that hard work will always pay off immediately. Sometimes you do everything right and still lose.
Sometimes the people who hurt you move on while you're left carrying the damage. That's reality. The question isn't whether life will break your heart. It will. The real question is whether you'll let that pain turn you into someone who has stopped believing, stopped loving, and stopped living. Don't let your struggles become your identity. Don't let one bad season convince you that your future has already been written.
Pain is part of life, but hopelessness is a choice you make every day you refuse to get back up. Peace isn't found when life finally calms down. Peace is built when you decide that chaos will no longer control the person you're becoming. Some battles will leave scars. Some losses will never make sense. But as long as you're still breathing, your story isn't over. So stop waiting for perfect circumstances. Stand up. Keep moving. Keep believing.
Because the strongest people aren't those who had the easiest lives. They're the ones who refused to let life destroy who they were. What's one hardship that changed you forever but also made you stronger?
At the end of the day, nobody knows how hard you hustle for your goals, how lonely you feel at times, how much sleep you lose, how many tears you silently shed, or the daily pressure you face. That's why you have to remember: You are not building your life for applause. You are building it because your soul knows what it was created to become.
Keep showing up when no one is watching. Keep honoring your word when no one is clapping. Keep planting seeds that may take years to bloom. The greatest transformations are often invisible long before they become undeniable.
One day, people will call you lucky. They will admire the outcome while never seeing the thousands of quiet decisions that forged it.
So be your own witness. Be your own encouragement. Let discipline carry you when motivation disappears, let devotion anchor you in truth, and let purpose carry you when life feels unbearably heavy.
Because the life meant for you belongs to the version of you who refused to quit, and took radical responsibility for your reality.
Life is funny because one day you're wishing for something, and the next, you have it. But you forget you were once wishing for it, so you take it for granted and start wishing for something else, something better. Don't forget to look around and appreciate the things you now have that you once wanted.
