Loved a glorious Monteverdi Vespers @KebleEarlyMusic yesterday. Thanks to all involved - soloists, orchestra and choir were all superb! What a haunting echo in Audi Coelum!
That’s KEMF wrapped up for another year! We closed the festival last night with a packed-out chapel and a stunning performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers.
Huge thanks to all the artists, students, school children, coaches, and volunteers who made it possible, and see you next year!
Superb concert tonight @KebleEarlyMusic Monteverdi 1610 Vespers given a spine-tingling performance by @ecse1610@KebleChoir choristers from @NewCollegeChoir & excellent soloists. Acoustics wonderful & separation of tenors worked well. Directed by Matthew Martin
A small visitor enjoying our Baroque Schools workshop. Much fun being had here this afternoon, preparing for an informal concert at 4.00. @KebleEarlyMusic@timeandtruthoxf
We close KEMF 2019 with Monteverdi's Vespers. It melds sacred and profane, contrasts plainchant with extravagantly decorated lines, and supplies moments of sublime intimacy alongside bellowing climaxes.
A starry line-up of soloists joins @ecse1610@KebleChoir@NewCollegeChoir.
9pm: Immediately following Night Music, @KebleChoir sing Compline by Candlelight, with plainchant and music by Tallis. Watch Butterfield's mosaics flicker in candlelight as the day draws to a close. (Free entry)
TODAY at KEMF 2019, thread:
2pm: We showcase the brilliant work of @timeandtruthoxf and Oxfordshire County Music Service with an open rehearsal and performance (4pm) of concerti grossi by Handel and Corelli, performed by the county's young string superstars. (Free entry)
8pm: @timeandtruthoxf return, this time with Oxford Consort of Voices, to explore music of 17th-century Italy in a programme that alternates sacred works by Giacomo Carissimi, with virtuosic violin and keyboard music by Girolamo Frescobaldi. (Tickets available on the door)
Very enjoyable concert. Great to see young players working together. Glad that they introduced the pieces. Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre was new to me - I expect we listened more attentively than the French court did when her music was first played.
Glorious evening at Keble Early Music Festival @KebleEarlyMusic: first, Evensong sung beautifully by @KebleChoir, then the whole of Bach’s Clavierübung III sublimely played by Martin Baker. More festival delights to come this week
7.30pm: Be prepared to hear and see double as @LaSerenissimaUK and @AdeSerenissima let rip with a raft of double concertos by Antonio Vivaldi. Tickets available on the door.
TODAY at KEMF 2019
1pm: The Bate Players perform Biber, Rosenmüller, Frescobaldi, and Jacquet de la Guerre: a lunchtime-length exploration of the most important instrumental innovators of the 17th century. (Free entry)
TODAY: three events at KEMF 2019. Thread:
2pm: Organist Martin Baker gives a masterclass to organ scholars on the Tickell-Ruffatti organ in Keble College Chapel.
7pm: Martin Baker returns to perform one of Bach’s most extraordinary collections, Clavierübung III. It demonstrates the composer at the height of his powers, and was one of the few works that Bach had published during his lifetime. Tickets will be available on the door.
