Petrol prices:
February, 2026: R20.10
October, 2026: R30.25
Diesel Prices:
February, 2026: R17:92
October, 2026: R31.95
Guys, in which world is this sustainable? Since Feb, Diesel has gone up by a staggering R14. Petrol has gone up by R10.
This is not normal. This is not sustainable. Something must give!
someone on tiktok said, “the love you receive from someone who knows how to be alone is the most sincere there is. a solitary soul loves you by choice, not out of need of company.” I FELT THAT with my entire soul.
No, you cannot walk 10,000 steps daily, get 8 hours of sleep, cook every night, clean every day, take care of a family, make time for your own hobbies, and still be productive at work every day. This is not just propaganda, it is nonsense. Free yourself from it.
Humans are prone to complicating their own lives in every way possible. Once upon a time, a matric dance was about a girl getting her dress which could be sown by the local dress maker, high heels from Foschini or Truworths, costume jewellery and a simple hairstyle. Fast forward to now. There’s a pre-event that includes parents and their friends (as to what for, I have no idea. Perhaps yet another excuse for grownups to get drunk). Then there’s the designer dress, which could cost as much as a wedding gown, the makeup and all the glamour that must accompany it. For boys, the costs can be almost similar. Then comes the hiring or borrowing of high-end luxury vehicles.
I ask myself. What is all of this for? How did a school dance become such an expensive production? Why do we subject ourselves to these ridiculously expensive lifestyles when we know we cannot afford them? And what pressure are we placing on our children when even a matric dance must become a display of status? Status in inverted commas nogal?
Why are we like this? How did we get here
PS. I have a 12 year old who will be in matric in 6 years time. I am hopeful this nonsensical matric dance flamboyance will be a thing of the past by the time he gets there.
one of life's little pleasures is realizing that after a couple of busy weeks, a slow weekend at home is exactly what you needed. sleeping in, fresh laundry, groceries in the fridge, a good show, a few little craft projects to work on. i love my quiet little life.
Nobody talks enough about how genuinely FUN toddlers are. The random conversations, the dancing, the excitement over the smallest things. It's such a sweet age. 🤍
You know what's worse than a lazy employee? A high performer who has stopped caring. Corporate life has a funny way of turning ambitious people into people who just want to go home.
•Make it hard to get a job
•When you do get a job make it far
•Make transport complicated till they can afford a car
•When they get a car make petrol expensive
•Tell them they need to do better at saving money.
On a serious note, there should be management meetings in all big companies today discussing how to alleviate the effects of the fuel price increase for employees. Unless you’re able to pay your staff more, you need to, where possible, offer solutions.
The average South African traveling 40km a day, 6 days a week, is now spending between R3000 and R5000 a month on fuel.
