American Singer's Yoga Retreat at Isha Yoga Center Sparks Online Debate

One post by a Western celebrity about her pleasant experience at a yoga program organized by the Isha Foundation, and all hell has broken loose. I’m referring to the recent social media post by American singer SZA after she attended a silence retreat at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore.

Leftists and liberals, masquerading as secularists, were quick to attack Sadhguru—some even labeling him the 'soft power of Hindutva.'

Here is one such post by someone going by the name 'DefsNotAmar,' recycling the same lies that have been repeated over the last 10–20 years.

✅First Dinesh Raja is a teetotaller - Piyush says he was drunk.

✅ Second - Isha Foundation has no CEO. So Dinesh cannot be the CEO! (Desperate to pull Isha into this, eh?)

✅Third, near the Isha ashram driving at breakneck speed - just not possible. It is an 8 feet road 😃

✅Fourth - the cattle came in a group all of a sudden and they broke Dinesh’s car side view mirror in the dark. The cattle that followed had a scratch from the broken mirror. And more importantly, even though it is not his fault, he stopped by and ensured he spoke to the care taker and gave compensation to treat the injured cows.

✅Fifth - Piyush is a habitual liar and his past time is to throw such baseless allegations against Isha.

Silence in the Media After Isha Foundation Gets a Clean Chit: Where Are the Apologies?

In recent years, #IshaFoundation, led by spiritual leader @SadhguruJV, faced numerous allegations regarding its activities, including accusations related to land encroachments and environmental violations. These claims, heavily covered by various media outlets, painted the foundation in a negative light, often leading to widespread public debate and scrutiny. However, with investigations now concluded and the foundation receiving a clean chit, it’s striking how few of those who reported or amplified the false allegations have acknowledged their errors—or offered an apology.

The Isha Foundation is not just a spiritual organization but one that has contributed immensely to environmental initiatives like Project GreenHands, KaveriCalling and Rally for Rivers, as well as education and healthcare projects. Yet, the focus of media reports often veered towards unverified claims, rather than showcasing the positive impact of the foundation’s work.

Now that the foundation has been exonerated of all charges, it raises important questions about the role of media accountability. When a narrative of accusations is pushed, it tends to linger in the public’s mind, even after it is proven false. The silence of major outlets, which previously jumped at the chance to sensationalize the allegations, is disappointing. Shouldn’t those who were quick to criticize and spread misinformation be equally willing to correct themselves and apologize for misleading the public?

The lack of retraction or acknowledgment from the media not only damages the reputation of organizations like Isha Foundation but also erodes public trust in journalism. If the media is to uphold its responsibility as a pillar of democracy, transparency and accountability must be maintained. When errors are made—especially when it comes to tarnishing the image of an individual or organization—there should be a commitment to set the record straight.

In the case of Isha Foundation, its clean chit deserves as much attention as the allegations that were once so widely reported. And more importantly, an apology from the media is due for the spread of misinformation and the negativity that it fueled. The absence of this accountability is a glaring issue in today’s media landscape, one that must be addressed to maintain the integrity of journalism.

Anybody who knows how the foundation functions, anybody who knows how the #IshaHomeSchool functions, knows that these accusations are laughable.

I literally burst out laughing at the ridiculous spiritual practice claims in the final paragraph.
