I honoured an invite from @cfkafrica and @OCTOPIZZO to speak to young women who are part of CFK's empowerment program in Kibra. The program seeks to rehabilitate teenage mothers through socio-economic support, opportunities to complete their education, and sensitisation on their rights and access to justice for victims of GBV.

The young women shared their experiences and encounters, and asked several questions about challenges they have faced in their pursuit for justice. It was encouraging to witness their unyielding hope despite the immense difficulty they have had to endure.

The stories from these girls demonstrates serious institutional gaps in responding to sexual and gender based violence. These gaps have facilitated victim stigma and discouraged survivors from seeking justice. We must take deliberate interventions to protect our children and make our communities conducive for the most vulnerable to thrive.

We made a visit to the Kamukunji in Kibra, a space for democratic discourse and political conversations by members of the public. The discussions were as interesting as they were inciteful, and I appreciated the level of awareness and enthusiasm among members. I look forward to more conversations anchored in respect for democracy and tolerance for divergent political views.
