@GYMObrad I interviewed him for the school paper once. They were replacing the HS roof and it was leaking - tiles falling on kids. Pretty funny actually. He was very open. Who knew I’d have nearly the same problems 25 years later.
@VinceClark5 I didn’t even know he knew I existed, but he sent me a card when I became Suoerintendent and called three times that first year to see how it was going.
Mr. Buddy Lowe died last week at 91. He served as Green County's Superintendent for 33 years until 2012. Good man - kind and and a progressive educator. R.I.P
An old clipping I found in a box at my uncle’s. Lucile Guthrie was Superintendent in Green Co. from 1945 to 1979. Can you even imagine 34 YEARS in that seat?
Jamie Oleka, one of UL's Ed.S. students, has been selected as the new principal at Nativity Academy at St. Boniface, an independent private middle school in the Catholic tradition to educate urban youth. She will be amazing in her new role. Congratulations Jamie!
Do others also know that - despite heroic efforts - our systems actually tend to perpetuate inequality, rather than ameliorate it? Poor kids are under-resourced. Wealthy kids are comparatively over-resourced. No real question. Is the gap a wonder? Allocation matters.
