[VIDEO] At 80, sheep farmer Charl Johannes van der Merwe graduated from UCT with a Master of Commerce in Economics, completing a lifelong ambition to return to university. His research draws directly on more than five decades of farming experience in the Upper Karoo, examining how sheep farmers responded to the devastating drought of 2013–2023.
Van der Merwe’s research highlights the economic and psychological toll of drought while exploring how farmers can better prepare for future climate shocks. His story is a reminder that the pursuit of knowledge has no age limit. #UCTGrad2026

1) Which teams have been sold?
2) Cost of running a PSL team
3) Reasons as to why these teams are sold?
4) Is there space for @CapitalAltvest to get in on the action?

It’s a beautiful Tues morn in Cape Town. Im on the station. Hope to catch the 7:02am-or something like that. The station is deserted. Even the birds have left. The ticket custodian makes a lone figure. He throws my ticket at me with the last bit of John Travolta he has left in him
Note on #EmergencyBudget |
You can borrow your way out of debt if your ROIC > WACC
But if most borrowing is funding opex (i.e. wages) WACC goes up and ROIC goes down aka crocodile jaws (similar to hippopotamus jaws but quicker, with sharper teeth & doesn't let go)
