My best friend’s cousin sent me his electric bill today: $280 for a basic two-bedroom apartment.

He checked the actual usage breakdown. The electricity he consumed was only $110.

The remaining $170 was tagged as "Delivery Charge," "Grid Modernization Fee," and "Peak Demand Surcharge."

They billed him 1.5 times the cost of the actual power just to send it through utility lines that have been hanging on wooden poles since 1984.

We don't buy power anymore. We pay a ransom to local utility monopolies just to keep the lights on.

That season, 631 laboratory-confirmed cases were reported across 25 states.

In October 2024, slivered onions Taylor Farms supplied to McDonald’s caused an E. coli O157:H7 outbreak that killed one person and sickened more than 100.
