@CMAltree Everyone’s affected. In areas not affected by wildfire, the local fire services have been deployed to help those areas that are - meaning there’s less crews to help out on their own patch if they’re needed.

I don’t think people realise that fire crews being stretched to their limit means if there is a fire at your house - for ANY reason - they may not have capacity to attend! Even if you’re not directly close to a wildfire, your local crews could be deployed there #emergencyalert

Fires are breaking out everywhere. Almost three-quarters of England is now officially in drought, and huge areas of the country are covered in tinder-dry, combustible vegetation. Wildfires have already reached record levels, destroying homes and stretching fire services.

The Government sends out a perfectly sensible emergency alert, at the direct request of Fire and Rescue Services, whose lives are at risk combatting this, asking people to avoid activities that could start yet more fires.

And the response? Utter outrage.

@GrumpyGraham5 @alexburghart Fire spreads rapidly, people are losing their homes (I could have been one of them recently). The fire service are stretched and may not be able to attend the next wildfire if they’re elsewhere, and someone may lose their life. Absolutely right to issue that alert.

@GrumpyGraham5 @alexburghart It hasn’t been misused. These fires are spreading rapidly in these conditions, within minutes someone’s house could be alight - people need to be vigilant. The emergency services are also incredibly stretched.

@JasonElsom @JoshuaPressLDN @DannyRichman It is imminent risk to life. Fire spreads incredibly quickly, especially more so in these conditions. Someone has a BBQ or a bonfire, and in minutes a house could be alight.

@J_WBerry Why hasn’t the ring doorbell footage that they made such a big deal of when Theo was alive been referenced - that would show who entered the flat. Surely other houses would have it too, which would back up Summer’s claims (and show Tyrone out and about!)

@greateranglia I have an off peak ticket and was planning on catching the 08:47 from Hythe to Stratford tomorrow morning, but this train is now cancelled. Due to the disruption, can I use this ticket on an earlier train if I go to Colchester?

@RMatthewsPsych @wesstreeting It’s better to not eat or drink anything/take pain meds if you’re in A&E, as this will impact needing emergency surgery (if that’s the case). I know it’s difficult for a child though, could you not have asked at Reception if they could provide some water?
