@jkmuhwezi If you truly believe in value for money, then accountability must start with you. Ugandans have every right to scrutinise your past decisions, demand answers about public resources, and question whether your record matches the principles you are now speaking about.
"Chairman, a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” Governor Atingi-Ego on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in an appearance before Parliament today.
@BuniChristopher How exactly did this happen? Did URA/Nakawa issue you an assessment or notice before the money was deducted? Did the bank show you the URA instruction authorising the deduction?
@DailyMonitor what they should know is that, mandating the NIN as a universal key for taxation, licensing, and financial transactions will increases data-sharing across multiple government and private agencies, raising public anxiety regarding data protection and state surveillance.
@cobbo3 Their projected 20M visitors are driven by a much larger diversified tourism base. The east African countries are more concentrated in safari, wildlife and nature tourism, so their combined visitor numbers are lower despite their strong attractions.

Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama has inspected the 76km Nebbi–Arua road, which he described as being in poor condition.
At Ora Bridge in Madi-Okollo, Byamukama said works on the bridge have not yet started. He said poor maintenance was contributing to the deterioration of roads, forcing government to spend more on repairs and reconstruction.
Byamukama said the ministry has so far inspected more than 23 delayed road projects across the country, with some projects failing to start because funds were not allocated on time.
“Some projects were over delayed. You find a road that was supposed to be completed two years back, because our staff at the ministry forgot to allocate money to the road projects,” he said.

Players coming out blaming the offside goal....You had over an hour against ten men, played shit, and didn't score. If you're hiding behind a dodgy goal a point was never enough and the performance was dreadful. Own it
🇺🇬 WAKE: UGANDA AIRLINES REACHED A POINT WHERE 80% OF ITS CAPACITY WAS GROUNDED
Uganda Airlines Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake has revealed the scale of the fleet crisis he found after taking over the national carrier.
Wake said one of the airline’s four regional aircraft had already been grounded since November 2025, while one of its two long-haul Airbus A330s was also out of service.
Soon afterwards, the remaining A330 developed an engine problem.
“So this meant 80% of the capacity of the airline was grounded at that point.”
Wake said engine problems were behind the grounding of the aircraft.
