One of my coworkers was desperate for someone to cover her Saturday shift.

She spent two days asking around, and when nobody else volunteered, she came to me.

I told her I’d do it, but only if she took my Tuesday evening shift the following week.

She agreed immediately.

Not just a quick “okay” either. She thanked me repeatedly, said I was saving her, and promised she’d absolutely return the favor.

So I covered her shift.

Fast forward to the day she’s supposed to cover mine.

Around noon, I get a text.

“Heyyy, I’m really sorry, but I don’t think I can take your shift tonight. I stayed out super late and I’m exhausted.”

My shift didn’t even start until 5 PM.

I was already annoyed, but then another message came through.

She said maybe I should just work the shift myself and tell everyone I decided I wanted the hours after all.

Then she added…….
