It is vividly expounded here. The predatory, exploitative, and dishonest characters have been deceiving and preying on a vulnerable person. Dehumanizing!
No single denomination, movement, confession, or theological tradition has ever possessed a flawless understanding of every doctrine. The truth itself is complete because God has revealed it in Scripture. Our understanding of that truth remains fallible. That distinction matters. “The sum of Your word is truth” (Psalm 119:160). The Bible does not need correction. We do.
Church history should humble us here. God has used different believers in different centuries to recover, defend, and clarify truths that others had neglected. The early church fought fiercely for the deity of Christ and the Trinity. The Reformers recovered the centrality of justification by faith and the authority of Scripture. Later believers pressed questions of church order, religious liberty, missions, sanctification, and other areas with greater clarity. None of them saw everything perfectly.
That is why inherited theology must remain open to examination by the Word. The Bereans were praised because they were “examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11). Paul did not tell them to accept teaching because it came from a respected name. Scripture remained the test.
This also means we should be very careful when our loyalty to a theological camp becomes stronger than our willingness to be corrected. Calvin can be wrong. Luther can be wrong. The church fathers can be wrong. Baptists, Presbyterians, Anglicans, Pentecostals, and every other tradition can be wrong. God alone is infallible, and His Word alone carries final authority.
That does not mean doctrine is uncertain or that every interpretation is equally valid. Scripture speaks clearly on many essential truths, and the church must contend for “the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints” (Jude 3). But confidence in truth should produce humility because whatever we know truly, we know only because God has spoken.
The healthiest Christian is willing to learn from church history without becoming captive to it. We should listen carefully, test everything, hold fast to what is good, and keep returning to Scripture as the final court of appeal (1 Thessalonians 5:21). The moment any group begins acting as though truth belongs to them, rather than they belonging under the truth, pride has already begun to replace discernment.
There's a little mysterious detail in the Noah's Ark narrative that many Bible readers miss.
In reality, it is one of the most encouraging things any Christian will ever learn.
