Climate Action is a driver of economic and social transformation that offers benefits beyond environmental protection to all Ugandans.
Through @UNDP’s Climate Promise initiative - a partnership between the Government of 🇺🇬Uganda (@GovUganda) and the 🇬🇧United Kingdom (@UKinUganda) - UNDP has supported #Uganda in strengthening its national climate ambition and delivery, including the update and publication of Uganda’s NDC 2.0, and more recently, the development of NDC 3.0.
Equally, Uganda’s climate finance gap has been narrowed by strengthening governance systems, including support for the Climate Finance Unit within the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (@mofpedU) , and the development of the National Climate Finance Strategy (2024–2030).

#WED2026
I paid a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health @MinofHealthUG - Dr. Diana Atwine @DianaAtwine yesterday to discuss opportunities for strengthening collaboration in Uganda’s health sector.
Our discussions focused on advancing strategic partnerships in health security and sustainable development, underscoring a shared commitment to improving health outcomes and building resilient health systems.
#FightEbolaUG
As we prepare for #WED2026, we recognize the role of school-led tree-growing programs like the Nehemiah Initiative in advancing Uganda’s Climate ambitions through her Nationally Determined Contributions #NDCs. These efforts support the country’s commitment to keep greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at or below 24.7% by 2030.
They also nurture environmentally conscious citizens while contributing to ecosystem restoration, carbon sequestration, and community resilience - key priorities under the Paris Agreement that calls for collective action to limit global warming and promote sustainable, low emission development pathways.

A flash black at #POATE2026
I encourage all of us to promote the value of 🇺🇬 #Uganda’s nature, wildlife and cultural heritage to build resilient economies, create jobs, mobilize revenue and protect ecosystems through #tourism.
Let’s be deliberate.

UNDP is proud to have been part of #POATE2026 alongside @GovUganda and partners to strengthen cooperation on investment in #tourism as a critical driver of Uganda's sustainable development agenda 🇺🇬
Uganda is indeed the Pearl of Africa - rich in wildlife, nature, culture and tradition.
@UNDP also joined the @EUinUG together with @UNCDF, @EnabelinUganda and @UNESCO to launch the Sustainable Tourism Value Chain Initiative.
At today’s opening ceremony of #POATE2026, I underscored four priorities for 🇺🇬 #Uganda to advance sustainable tourism growth that benefits all.
1️⃣ Invest in nature and culture as economic infrastructure
2️⃣ Diversify and go digital
3️⃣ Plan for shocks before they arrive
4️⃣ Make border communities the business case

Here’s a snapshot of what we achieved together 👇
✅ Capacity of 1,000+ #youth built in leadership & development - with 10 going on to win nominations and elections across Uganda.
✅ 8,520 youth skilled and now driving change as entrepreneurs, AI & tech experts, and green job holders in sectors like e-mobility.
✅ 15,241+ members of the Ik border community (Uganda-Kenya-South Sudan) now enjoy security services - thanks to the first-ever establishment of security infrastructure close to their homes.
✅ Piped water now reaches 32 villages across the Karamoja Sub-region, delivering water security to 19,000+ people - reducing GBV, expanding income opportunities for women, and improving school enrolment.
✅ 41 secondary schools became centres of ecosystem restoration under the Nehemiah Initiative - helping grow Uganda’s national forest cover from 12% in 2024 to 15% in 2025, advancing toward the 2030 target of 21%. 🌳
Looking ahead, our new 2026–2030 Country Programme aligns with the final push for the Sustainable Development Goals - expanding possibilities for Uganda’s youth, women, and communities in hard-to-reach areas through technology, AI, environmental resilience, and inclusive last-mile service delivery.
The people drove it. The possibilities continue. 💙
