How much could global grain supply lose because of the Black Sea disruption?

We're not ready to predict that global supply will lose 10-20-30-50 mmt of #wheat and #corn (insert any fancy number here). But we can give a reasonable estimate of the monthly losses.

Russia could lose 1-2 million tonnes of #wheat exports per month while navigation through the Sea of Azov remains shut.

Ukraine could lose around 1.5-2.5 million tonnes of grain exports per month.

Multiply that by the number of months, and you get an idea of the scale. Things back to normal in a few weeks? Not a big deal. Disruption continues through the end of 2026? The loss gets HUGE — close to 20 mmt, mainly wheat.

Trade / hedge accordingly.
