🦔The Nashville Zoo is trying to block a 69,000 square foot data center proposed about 50 yards from its animals. The zoo says noise could disrupt breeding of clouded leopards, a vulnerable species. An online petition has over 180,000 signatures.
Nashville has no zoning rules or building regulations for data centers. DC BLOX, the developer, applied for site permits before it even closed on the property. A council member filed a zoning appeal and the council votes Tuesday on a data center moratorium.

My Take
As a hedgehog I'm obligated to side with the animals on this one. DC BLOX can't even say what the data center would be used for or who the customers are. 69,000 square feet, 50 yards from endangered animals, and the developer has no disclosed client. That's how little the community factored into the decision.

These companies have billions of dollars. They could build anywhere. Instead they show up in places with no data center regulations because nobody can stop them. Utah, California, now Nashville. You don't file for permits before you own the property if you plan to ask the neighborhood what they think. The zoo had 1.4 million visitors last year and 180,000 people signed the petition in days. The clouded leopards are going to have to trust the process.
