As an IT professional, most of my time is spent working on computer systems, but that doesn’t mean I’m always at my desk. Today we were working on @BigelowLab’s new research vessel - planning for new devices and updating/troubleshooting the navigation computer.

@ITBrew I agree 100%. From a hiring perspective, I don’t put a lot of weight in certifications. Certifications encourage a cycle of study/cram, test, and forget (especially if it’s a skill that you aren’t currently utilizing at work).
The optical switches are “fibers connected by mirrors, so any bandwidth running through a fiber can be switched between input and output fibers by the OCS across 4,096 chips today”
But that's what technology does.
It makes new things possible and makes life more convenient, it puts people out of work and puts people into work, it destroys whole industries and creates new ones, it makes the world safer and more dangerous.
And it seems, always, inevitable.
