mgk turned down auditions for at least two movies, including Sinners, rather than say the N-word on screen, explaining that he couldn't feel comfortable with his Black daughter seeing her father say the word.
In a 2016 interview with Hot 97, mgk elaborated on his decision to turn down a movie role despite his Black agent encouraging him to take it as an opportunity to push his creativity.
mgk said: “It was one of the few auditions that I didn't want to turn down because the script was so good, but I turned down because it was a film about the K- ... I've been wanting to play more roles lately that really take away from who I am as an artist and just make you really look at whoever that character is ... I was reading the part they wanted me to play. And there was such, like, derogatory use of the word ... it was one of those things, who my agent, who was black ironically, was like, 'Yo, this is a really, really, a good film if you want to break out of, you know, if you want to continue to push your creativity, this is like a role that would take people out of...' ... I had ended up sending them an email that was like, 'My daughter is black. I don't know if I could ever, like, feel comfortable with myself knowing that my daughter could see her father, like, saying the word.' ... I never dive into a role and don't plan on, like, fully embellishing that or, like, becoming that. So, I just think people wouldn't be able to separate me from that character— and like, especially just being in hip-hop too, you know what I'm saying? The last thing I would want would be to play that role so good that all of a sudden people start [thinking he was too convincing]”
In 2025, mgk revealed that he had declined to audition for Sinners because the role required him to say the N-word. He shared this during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
"Like Sinners, I was supposed to be in that," mgk said.
"Which one?" Pat McAfee asked.
"The vampire," mgk said. "They had me set up to do the auditions. It's the vampire, the one that's in the house, so he's the second vampire, the one that the guy comes in, like, he eats the family up. But in the audition, he has to say the N word, and I just wouldn't do it."
"Appreciate that," Pat McAfee said. "That Django Unchained thing [Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained] was pretty wild to watch."
FYI: mgk's oldest daughter, Casie Baker, is biracial.
Sinners is a 2025 film directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, and Jack O’Connell.

Keanu Reeves reveals that even the cast of THE MATRIX (1999) had no idea what they were making. Early test screenings went poorly, leaving everyone uncertain about how the film would perform.
“No idea.”

George McLaurin, the first black man admitted to the University of Oklahoma in 1948 was forced to sit in a corner far from his classmates.
When he first applied he was denied based on his race. He went to court & it ruled that denying him was unconstitutional.
George W. McLaurin provided the Oklahoma civil rights case that irreparably damaged the "separate but equal" legal position established in Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896.
Plessy v. Ferguson was a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in which the Court ruled that racial segregation laws did not violate the U.S. Constitution
The justices affirmed that McLaurin’s 14th Amendment rights means he must receive the same educational experience as OU’s white students.
He earned a master's degree from the University of Kansas and taught at Langston University, an all-black institution, until 1968.
