I'd just like to take a moment to roast myself for being very, VERY WRONG.
As recently as a few years ago, I was adamant Google had an untouchable advantage in search + Amazon in ecommerce—unable to be overtaken on a time frame under ~5-10 yrs (best case).
Recent AI progress has changed this entirely.
I did not see this coming.
On a long enough time scale, no lead is untouchable (obviously) but I didn't imagine a path in which language-based AIs would spring up almost overnight, capable of cutting out the "middleman". Yet here we are.
The reason we search in the first place is not for the act of searching but for the RESULT: to FIND what we are searching for (information, a product etc).
Recent progress in AI means AI can now (and moreso in the future) do the leg work for you. Traditional search for information and products is gonna die fast. Why search yourself when an AI can do it for you and cut out the steps in between?
The irony is I have always been very bullish on AI, expecting AGI in the 2030-2045(ish) timeframe when most experts thought it was 50-100 years away.
Yet even I was completely blindsided by the insane surge in AI capabilities we're witnessing right now.
The future will be anything but boring.
I look forward to being very wrong about other things, too.
p.s. I for one welcome our new AI overlords. Pls don't hurt me.
Let's stay hot! Here are your 5 ropes for CFB week 11.
