@bibliographing@PolaSays@lacherbauer@AJManaseer@lucasmuseum@FOTPChicago As someone who has also used that section of the LFT, it does NOT go through the parking lot. The LFT is to the east along Burnham Harbor, then the site where the museum would’ve gone which is still to this day a giant parking lot, then LSD. The museum wouldn’t have displaced LFT
@twinkarras@lacherbauer@lucasmuseum@FOTPChicago Is the parking lot forever open free and clear? I’m pretty sure it’s a paid parking lot. Enjoy the acres of hot, impervious, toxic, asphalt.
@PolaSays@lacherbauer@AJManaseer@lucasmuseum@FOTPChicago S now you get a park lot with a sea of asphalt, or a Bears stadium on the site. Both are SO MUCH BETTER than a MUSEUM on the MUSEUM campus. Why don’t you just call it the Parking Lot Campus and route LSD through it again since it’s clear you don’t want MUSEUMS on this site?
@7LayerMagik@ChicagoDPD While I generally agree with you, look up where this is going. Its neighbor to the north is literally a strip mall. To the east will be utility truck/part storage, and the south is a warehouse. The only people around to care are to the west. This much density here is great.
@BuildingChi It at least was still there 9 months ago, according to Streetview. Interesting that this shows what looks like renovation work on the tower. Maybe that’s actually the in-progress removal?
@ChicagoDPD This is a win, but the original proposal called for 150 units, 40 affordable. This updated plan was kept secret and wasn’t even available on the alder’s website. At least he finally came to his senses, but it should’ve been for the first plan.
@BuildingChi Why was this allowed in the first place and why is this problem allowed to be exacerbated? It’s a rhetorical question: money. Someone at the Cubs gave the City, or the alderman, a pretty penny and they got their expanded parking. The loss of the women’s shelter is an equal issue.
@BuildingChi Illinois’ single largest permeable lot. Compare these two screenshots, taken at the same scale. One forward thinking, problem solving lot from 2008 and one backwards, outdated, problematic parking.
@tnertz@BlockClubCHI Does McCrmick Place still have them on the ground floor by the main taxi pickup/drop off from MLK? No surprise they both had them since they’re the same agency. Now I want to look up who got them first as McCormick Place South & new Navy Pier may have been built at the same time.
@BlockClubCHI “enhance Navy Pier’s visitation and educational strengths” which is exactly what was said about the Illuminarium that was NEVER built. Here’s Block Block original reporting, none of which was included in this article. https://t.co/8OWyvAX39O Challenge Navy Pier, they deserve it!!
@BlockClubCHI there is ZERO reason for a local to go to the pier. I at least went for the IMAX screen, and have zero interest in a knockoff Soaring ride. Return the Crystal Gardens to the people before they turn it into a J.C. Penny or Hobby Lobby to “attract visitors” and…
@filming_chicago Something was filming Thursday at the former DePaul College Prep at California and Addison. Mr. Throwback had previously filmed here since the gym is from the 1960’s, so guessing it’s another period piece or scene.
