@DLoCorrea@GlobeFarrah (And this is without even touching the claim that career paths are so easy and that making mistakes there won’t have massive costs, which they of course can and do.)
@DLoCorrea@GlobeFarrah The sentence clearly contrasts “still have your life work out” with “missed the boat on kids.” That is, if you “missed the boat on kids,” you will not “still have your life work out.” What comes after the “but” is the exception to “still have your life work out.”
@DLoCorrea@GlobeFarrah The sentence as written implies that “missing the boat on kids” means your life didn’t “work out,” and doesn’t say anything about whether people want them or not.
@Chicago_Goofies Technically, the narrowing there is being cause by “pedestrian infrastructure”; the concrete island and flex posts are so people can stand in the street.
@CuriousBunnie12 I don’t see how the part about how you can do whatever career you want whenever is “saying true things.” Some careers don’t work that way! Making/saving money doesn’t really work that way! (Plus the implication that your life can’t turn out fine if you don’t have a kid.)
@sosagamboa@pondwhale@belleofballpark@EricsRambles Then it sounds like we can get rid of bikeshare without much loss. The reality is that these bikes have made things worse by attracting people who otherwise wouldn’t be riding.
@criticalurban@Opcn Absolutely, but those are more of a hazard to me on my bike trail than walking through my own neighborhood. They’re worse closer to downtown.
@Opcn@criticalurban I mean when people are walking three abreast in the oncoming direction and refuse to make any space, forcing you onto the verge/parkway. Happens all the time. And then there are the ones who turn left without checking to see if someone is overtaking.
@DeepDishhhLover@AStuttaford@mattyglesias More dev doesn’t benefit me at all, and with the increased cost of prog entrenchment and more redistribution, on top of QoL costs, I’m just against it.
@DeepDishhhLover@AStuttaford@mattyglesias I just have no reason to be pro-dev/see no reason for moderates to be pro-dev. I used to ID as YIMBY due to belief in property rights; years of worsening prog policies here have led me to care less about that than about defending my own QoL.
