@2024dion Likely this is caused by the Midwestern cities being spaced too far apart for the type of regional interconnection of the East Coast. These cities are all at least 3ish hrs drive from each other, hard to have regular connection at that distance

@rpmm24 and the higher ther service hours per bus per rider, the higher the fare per rider to cover the opex. then finally, the higher the fare the fewer riders because riders will choose other modes which have more benefitd at a similar price point. same reason nobody uber pools

@rpmm24 yeah like at a basic level the math wouldn't work. every time you halve the capacity you double (maybe less) the cost. if you have double the 20ft busses than you had 40ft busses, you still have to obtain and maintain the busses but you have more service hours per bus per rider

@mollyfleck @culturecanceler They're both department stores but for whatever reason Macy's doesn't seem to focus on presenting a compelling reason to shop there. They have more expensive and worse clothing, worse makeup selection, worse home goods etc than dedicated stores and the shopping exp sucks

@mollyfleck @culturecanceler I would say we also want the gigantic flagship to actually be a place to find stuff that isn't at the boutique neighborhood stores. I try to shop on person a lot and often I have found that Macy's to be very lacking even in comparison to a neighborhood Target.

one of my deepest hopes is that in the tempest of weirdness that is 2020s politics, we'll eventually pick our heads up just enough to realize that our "isms" make no sense and actually never did, and in fact we should just judge each policy proposal on its own merit against the evidence of whether it would achieve our collective goals
