On the day Malala was fired, he reportedly rushed to State House around 6 a.m., accompanied by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, in a desperate attempt to plead for his job. The coup against him had occurred just an hour earlier, at around 5 a.m. Despite going to the extent of getting on his knees and even breaking down in tears, Malala begged President Ruto to intervene on his behalf.

However, despite the President’s attempts to reach out to key UDA officials, his calls went unanswered as they had switched off their phones. The dramatic scene lasted for about 30 minutes before President Ruto, exasperated, finally said, "Nimejaribu Yangu yote nimeshindwa". He then instructed Malala to stand up.
