This Water Vole was left vulnerable to predation, because most of the vegetation had been removed. Management of bank-side vegetation should be undertaken in sections, so that uncut areas of bank are retained for refuge. Mowing up to the edge should be avoided!
Restoring native woodland in landscapes grazed by cattle & deer can be challenging without the use of fencing. Across the #Northwoods Rewilding Network, weโre using seed islands โ small enclosures protecting species such as aspen โ to promote growth before the fence is removed.
