one time i showed casablanca to a friend for the first time, and when it was over, he said it was good, but it was distracting how many cliches they used. “i think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.” lines like that.
anyway this tweet reminds me of this
@JBoneSlocumb@VersaceCaesar THIS. the way she got defensive all of a sudden was bizarre but whatever it takes to break the spell Holmes had on her I guess lol
Yeah IIRC, didn't Amanda Seyfried start to flip on Elizabeth and stop thinking she's an uwu smol bean who needs to be saved from Billy...because Elizabeth was mildly critical of her portrayal in the show lol
I think Nathan Fielder did a really good job with You Can See Everything. Especially in showing how unwilling Amanda Seyfried was to acknowledge her own role in potentially harming another person. He had everyone looking at one another and questioning everyone else’s intentions, while seemingly being completely unwilling to examine their own behavior. I thought Amanda’s resistance to doing that was especially revealing
I also obviously think Billy is terrible. I think he’s cruel and exploitative. I’ve seen Elizabeth’s tweets for years and thought they were her. Finding out they’re his was jarring and sad.
But as much as I dislike Billy, I think he made a very good point. Why would he care what Amanda thinks? She’s an actress who has profited from portraying his wife as a bizarre and dishonest and manipulative freak to an audience that is largely voyeuristic, incredibly binary in their moral thinking, and seemingly unable to separate fiction from reality
I don’t think that Amanda needed to defend Elizabeth or excuse anything she’s done but I do think it’s bizarre how unwilling she seemed to consider that she might have contributed to another person’s suffering
it’s so funny to start a whole company around the fact that you’re afraid of needles—only to end up making your employees use them anyway—and just lying about it lmao like mama you could have researched!
the ethan klein thing is a great example of some shit i never wanted to know about, involving people i will never care about, a situation i do not wish to see on my timeline at all, and yet i'm cackling and retweeting everything that comes up
I just finished Bad Blood earlier today. everyone should read it. or listen to it. get the information in your brain.
it lines up so well with what we see in THE DROPOUT while focusing on everyone around holmes, rather than centering her. thoughtful work!
It's pretty amazing how some people agree with the basic right wing evangelical line that society should be so intensely sex segregated that women should not have friendships with men but do not understand that this belief is deeply conservative and anti-feminist.
Media literacy to many is just parroting back whatever was *told* in the story to support an argument with no concern for what the story actually took effort to *show*
Teens are telling their therapists they don’t believe there will be a world left for them when they grow up
My family therapist told me therapists are talking about this with each other because none of them know what to say
I can’t stop thinking about that
big reason why is because people largely still believe that the point of (all) storytelling is "the message". in these cases, you can't really properly grasp the relation of showing to telling, much less use them in interesting ways.
#YSCE is just so... Incurious. We ask zero follow up questions about her backstory, not even from her dad. We don't ask why the Dropout is offensive or inaccurate to her.
They observe but they don't press. They ask for nothing and lucky us, we got it.
@banjoemoji I'm scared to watch Primetime now 🥺 even though I've been really excited for it
If it was a journalism, it wasn't terribly curious and if it was comedy, it wasn't funny at all to me
