Here’s a few lessons I’ve learnt over the years. 📝

**Can’t take credit for these. They’ve all come from the great leaders and experiences I’ve been lucky to have.**

(In no particular order)

⁃Build the plane mid air
⁃Vulnerability is a precious leadership trait
⁃Adversity is the mother of all progress
⁃There is always a way
⁃Courage and a bit of hard-headedness are essential
⁃Don’t take yourself too seriously
⁃Make your own way, no one will make it for you. Create your own opportunities
⁃If you’re not adding back 10% of the time you’re not deleting enough
⁃Simplicity is beauty (if you can’t put things in simple terms you probably don’t understand it)
⁃You can become relatively good in any field in about six months if you learn by doing
⁃Egos suck
⁃Kill politics quickly
⁃One way doors versus two way doors
⁃Big problems versus paper cuts
⁃Perfection is the enemy of the good
⁃Bias for action is a rare trait
⁃Your team will go at the pace that you set
⁃Find your wedge and spread your shoulders in it
⁃Tenacity!
⁃Sport is your friend
⁃People search purpose
⁃Give people agency, let people fail
⁃Be very skeptical of people with a scope that’s a million miles wide and one inch deep
⁃Knock things out of bad equilibriums quickly
⁃From time to time you have to pick some fights for the sake of progress, pick the right ones
⁃Doing the right thing matters a lot, even if it’s the hardest thing
⁃Most people who said they did something are actually project managers of people who actually did the work. Find the people who actually did the work by asking about the details.
⁃Keep meetings small and make decisions quickly
⁃You can’t run things quickly by running things by consensus or committee.
⁃Always be skeptical of tenured self-proclaimed “experts”
⁃It’s ok to change your mind
⁃Adjust your frame of action to your changing environment.
⁃Keep fighting, even when the hardest storms hit
⁃Keep a low key public profile to be more effective at your work
⁃Don’t take more external risks than you need to (be low key)
⁃Being fun and light hearted is always helpful
⁃Find the people who reached their ceiling and will be an obstacle for growth
⁃Tenured people tend to protect their legacy making change harder
⁃Have no fear of solving hard problems ourselves
⁃If you think you need to pay an external party to solve a core problem or need of your business, then you’re almost certainly failing
⁃Managers should serve their team, no the other way round
