Southampton Town Police Officer Ryan McHale pulled over a driver after the motorist waved and flipped him the middle finger.

McHale then checked the window tint, lectured the driver on New York hand-signal law, spotted a firefighter sticker on the vehicle, and remarked that the fire chief “wouldn’t like” the driver’s behavior.

He issued two tickets. Both were later dismissed.

HOW IRAN OUTSMARTED AMERICA: DECADES UNDERGROUND BEAT A WAR OF CHOICE

America stumbled into its Iran war with no clear objectives and no method to win. Iran had been preparing for exactly this fight for decades. One side improvised a war of choice. The other had already buried the war it expected.

THE STUMBLE
➡️ America entered without settled aims or a plan to achieve them.
➡️ Iran treated the fight as existential years in advance.
➡️ It built regional allies, readied its leadership to survive a decapitation strike, and put what it valued most underground.

THE 35 MISSILE CITIES
➡️ Western analysts put about 35 “missile cities” at the center of Iran’s war plans.
➡️ Their job was to shelter ballistic missiles aimed at Israel and America’s Gulf Arab partners.
➡️ February strikes knocked out many launchers. The fire rate fell by as much as 80%.
➡️ Missiles already deep underground could not be touched.
➡️ So the campaign shifted to caving in tunnel mouths.
➡️ Iran hunkered down, fired what survived more slowly, and dug the entrances back out.
➡️ Commanders admitted the bunkers were so deep that none of America’s munitions could reach them.
➡️ “Everybody is going underground.”

MOSAIC COMMAND
➡️ They hardened command as well as concrete.
➡️ When senior leaders were killed on the first night, officers elsewhere already had authority to launch counterstrikes.
➡️ The same complexes stored the speedboats, drones, and missiles built to close the Strait of Hormuz.

THE STOCKPILE AMERICA NEVER BUILT
➡️ Iran had built large weapons stocks. America had not.
➡️ At the start: around 1,000 ballistic missiles able to hit Israel, and as many as 4,000 that could strike the Gulf.
➡️ Even after firing and losses, enough remained to keep some operations going.
➡️ Bombing wrecked much of the capacity to make new missiles.
➡️ Small drone workshops were another matter. Those can keep producing almost indefinitely.

THE BOTTOM LINE
The Iranian government has survived. Guard commanders stepped into key roles. Arab capitals got a lesson in geography and in the limits of American power. Washington showed a president hooked on short-term politics and a military short of the tools for a war of survival against another state. This was never a war of choice against an insurgency. It was a prepared state versus an improvised one.
