It is with deep regret and sorrow that we learnt that Captain Uzair Mehmood Malik, of the Pakistan Army’s 5th Baloch Regiment, has attained martyrdom today in CMH Peshawar after sustaining a sniper rifle gunshot to the head two days ago during active combat operations.

In a pre-dawn coordinated multi-directional ambush attack by terrorists on his military post in Tirah, Khyber District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the 9th of August 2024, he took a defensive position facing the terrorists with minimal cover to prevent an overrun of the post, and returned fire directly. He was targeted by a sniper rifle of the enemy terrorist combatant after holding the terrorists off in a manner of honour going above and beyond the call of duty.
