This is sick to treat these kids as some kind of rioters. She was always like this. Always unfit to be a civil servant. Safest way to avert a direct confrontation between the students and the police is to have a trained civil defence as the first line of defence and riot police as it is now.

The Riot Police can be at a distance. To keep
watch to protect the civil defence personnel comprising of young men and women. (as is now the case. They can trained afresh.

This is akin to the BSF on our borders as the first line before our soldiers get engaged

Riot police must come in only if Civil Defence line is being over run or under threat

In India every State has a dept of civil defence and home guards. They are all recruited, young men and women on the pay rolls.
They can become the front line of defence for student agitations.
This will avoid a direct confrontation with riot police in the first instance itself. .

We can experiment with this.
The Civil Defence can be with cane shields to protect themselves from brick bats and also have body armour and helmets. No sticks.
This will place the onus on the student demonstrators to not provoke the coming in of riot police.
Armed police comes in only for saving life and property and will need a justification.

The Civil Defence hence becomes the witness.
This will avoid allegations and counter allegations.

Every Child in USA has access to school education that is upto 12th Standard. They treat a person educated if he has completed school education. Most children join University after working for 2-3 years after school. In universities scholarships, assistant ships, fee waivers are available for students from poor background. Above all there are enough schools and universities to cater to all. There is no comparison.

We visited Japan this year. Stayed in a Ryokan (Japanese Traditional Hotel). Before we could approach the reception, we had to go to a locker room, where upon opening of any locker we found a pair of slippers. We were asked to keep our shoes in the locker & put on the slippers. For our entire stay our shoes remained in the locker whenever we were inside the Ryokan.
On the contrary, we could go in shoes upto the altar of most Buddhist Temples.

I pondered over the apparent paradox. We do the Darshan in a temple from a distance and don’t enter the sanctum sanctorum. So, no issues of hygiene. But in a Ryokan where you eat and live, it is like a home, so maintain strict hygiene.

Religiosity must be accompanied by logic and practicality.

Sir, there is a very small solution. Ban all kinds of private coaching, Tution etc. Make school education compulsory. Make schools of only one type across the country with same curriculum (in different languages as per states). When we have schools without roofs, teachers, and basic infrastructure, they will have to go to private coaching to compete with top class schools.

I feel the truth lies somewhere in between. No doubt Vacations are needed. However, How long should they be? When should they be? Just sitting in the court, hearing one case for days, shutting up other cases in a few seconds, giving lectures to lawyers & litigants, being not ashamed of pendency are the issues, which need to be addressed together. Whether justice is being done? Whether it is just writting judgments or in some cases only a catalogue of old judgments? Whether the judiciary itself is not responsible for pendency? Why should a case like Sabrimala be heard by nine judges for almost a month at the cost of so many other cases? The issue of vacations is directly connected with many other such issues.

Judges chosen rank at 3, 12, 14, 28 in All India Seniority. There are two Lady Judges at Seniority 7 & 18. Not that the judges selected are not good, but when collegium is recording reasons, the reasons for supersession also must be given. If a judge is not capable of becoming a SC judge, how can he be capable of continuing as HC judge? Opacity is not helping the cause. Some of the left out judges are extremely good.
