A Russian tourist in Cape Town, South Africa, who had just escaped a robbery at the beach, sought safety by approaching a police roadblock in Bloubergstrand. Instead, she was subjected to a brutal assault by law enforcement officers (SAPS or metro police), who also reportedly robbed her of valuables. She was later arrested on charges of assaulting an officer.

The incident shattered her sense of security, turning what should have been a refuge into further trauma.
