There’s a line from Roy Keane autobiography in 2002, where he talks about the mentality of the United team in the first 15 minutes of games. I’m paraphrasing, but it was along the lines of “we know we have more quality than any other team, the only thing the opposition could ever be better at than us is intensity and fight. So for the first 15 minutes we always go out high intensity, starting from the tunnel. We let them know within 15 minutes that they won’t even beat us at duels and battles, then when we’ve killed their spirit, we start playing football”.

That was a treble winning captain talking about running and dueling first, before anything. No great team is 20th in running.

people treat Yuvraj's 12-ball fifty like nostalgia, a nice memory from back when T20 was new and nobody knew what they were doing. But T20 grew up and it still hasn't touched it. In January this year, Abhishek Sharma, probably the most destructive opener India has right now, got to fifty in 14 balls against New Zealand. Shivam Dube did it in 15 in the same series. And Yuvraj, his own mentor, went online and teased him: "Still can't get a 50 off 12 balls, can you?" Think about that. The modern guys aren't beating the record….They keep getting close and falling short.

Secondly, and this is the part I love, look at how he did it. No scoops, no switch-hits, no ramps. Six sixes off Stuart Broad in one over, and every single one was a proper cricket shot, over midwicket, square leg, extra cover, point, square leg and long-on.

People call it a classic moment. I call it a record modern cricket should have broken years ago, and still can't.

The ones who lived through a full year began to reset. The cubs born here never had the old clock at all. Thirty-two of them opened their eyes under northern daylight. Their coats, their breeding, their sense of when winter arrives - already Indian.

That is the quiet part of the 52. Not just numbers. A species that crossed the Equator, paid for the mismatch in skin and blood, and then handed a correctly timed body to its young.
