I setup with my wife @KimWilson at a card show for the first time. Video is out now on Sports Card Investor.
She asked some really good questions… should we have her back?
Big, esp. for local TV newsrooms that have traditionally relied on non-competes to keep top talent. A win for talent, and more important than ever for news leaders to make their newsrooms a place good people want to work.
Sometimes paying it forward means telling them about all the things that went wrong before that one thing went right. ❤️ Startups are hard ya’ll! Keep the faith, celebrate small wins, and surround yourself with supporters. #atlunicorns#founderfriday#startuplife@ATLTechVillage
This is consistent with what we see working directly with local news outlets. I don’t think folks realize what a tough year it’s been for local news - and it’s communities that lose when reliable news sources shrink.
📣 Attention all new business owners! 💼🚀
It's natural to feel the urge to offer discounts when launching a new product or service. It might feel like the fastest way to attract customers and make sales. However, this strategy can lead to a challenging predicament that can be difficult to rebound from. 🚫🏷️
When you constantly discount your products or services, you inadvertently send the message that they may not be worth the full price. This, in turn, lowers your brand value and makes it challenging to charge full price in the future. 💰💸
Think about it: Would you consider buying a product at full price if you know it will be on sale next week? Probably not. And neither will your customers. 🧐
So, how can you avoid falling into the discount trap?
1. Focus on building value 🏗️. Communicate the benefits and value of your product or service, not just the price.
2. Improve your sales skills 💪. Practice makes perfect. The more you refine your sales techniques, the more confident you'll become in selling your product or service at full price.
3. Stand behind your pricing 💼. Have confidence in your pricing. If you're providing a quality product or service, it's worth every penny.
And what about friends and family? Should they get a "special" discount?
While it's wonderful to have the support of friends and family, remember that your business is your livelihood. They should want to support you by paying full price, just like any other customer. This isn't about charity; it's about valuing your hard work and the quality you offer. 🙌
Running a business isn't a sprint; it's a marathon. And the journey to success starts with valuing your offerings appropriately. So, stay strong, trust your worth, and keep striving for greatness.
Your business deserves it. YOU deserve it. 💎🎯

One of my competitors has raised a $1.5 million round of funding from VCs.
Meanwhile, we have made $1.75 million in revenue from customers who use our product 😉
Proud to be bootstrapped, independent and profitable.
You don’t start and run companies just for an exit.
We do it because we are crazy people willing things into very existence.
We are supposed to be the next generation of explorers, risktakers, adrenaline junkies.
Addicts to the feeling of being so damn unemployable your only option is owner.
The inability to sleep because of visions so big they pull you from bed in the dead of the night.
Dreams so futuristic people laugh when you tell them. Those are the builders I admire.
It’s f*cking hard.
But we do the work.
Easily one of the most vapid and dismissive industry pieces I’ve ever read. What value is there in name calling even if any of these insults were true? (they’re not) The TV vs Print mentality is so played out and counterproductive. Do better @NiemanLab https://t.co/mwwzi1Rpzk
