Yes I’m frustrated that POC don’t get the opportunity or mentorship to make their own ‘Obsession’ or ‘Backrooms’
But POC also have to make a film that the general audience wants to see
It works two ways
@TomAandTom1 You sound ignorant, fam. You made a blanketed statement about POCs making films general audiences want to see and you’re being bitter because you’re being rightfully challenged by people telling you it’s more than just that. But carry on.
I Love Boosters still doing A LOT of packed houses on both coasts, in the Midwest, and in the south.
SOME are just finding out about the movie for the 1st time. Awareness is growing.
The genre of the movie is undefinable, our box office story will also play by unorthodox rules.
@sunspearpoison Whether it was “better,” which I don’t agree with, is subjective. But the point is about making a film audiences want to see. The subject matters in both films have a LOT of crossover. And both, are at the very least, good movies w audience appeal.
@carolinerenard_ For sure. But they’ve worked together outside of Euphoria too so they probably got similar sensibilities that bring out the best in each other cinematically. There’s an insane oner in Assassination Nation that was probably Sam’s idea that his DP pulled off and visa versa
It’s a brand new day! Brand new week and brand new month. We have 31 days left to raise money to make this film. Lately it’s felt like the industry isn’t interested in us but I don’t want to wait for them to catch up. Please help us get this made!

Maybe it’s changed. Wasn’t the case for me. I had no professional accolades, no “entertainment” resume, nor any recommendations. Just pure audacity to apply.
This is a reminder that the NBCU TV Writers Program is not for new or first time writers. It is for writers who have worked in the industry, have accolades, an impressive resume & letters of recommendation from known industry players. If thats not you, then it's not for you.
The brilliant Jeff Hiller has not worked at all in 2026, despite being fresh off his Emmy triumph: “That’s scary, like, ‘But I have an Emmy; I don’t get to work now?’” he tells me. “It’s a rough time. It’s not like business be booming. It’s disheartening”: https://t.co/riguVnCnuL
The blockbuster summer movie as we know it is dead. RIP IP. The most talked about movies of the summer are two low budget indie films—OBSESSION and BACKROOMS.
Not sequels. Not spinoffs. Not reboots. OGs.
Movies are back, baby. This is the way.
Re: this moment in horror, YouTube origins are a huge part of the story, but the canary in the coal mine was SMILE. An unknown filmmaker, a clever hook, exceptional marketing, noisy sound design, and a darkened, evasive POV. Second highest-grossing original of 2022, behind NOPE.
