Kindling is a nonprofit founded in 2020 to support and inspire fire safety improvements in emerging nations, low income communities, and humanitarian contexts
#UKSF30@KindlingSafety and @savechildrenuk present about fire safety, and highlight a simple but effective intervention of placing a lightweight fire barrier between tents in an informal settlement.

SAVE THE DATE for our webinar on Wednesday, 31 January 2024, at 9 am EST, where we will formally launch our groundbreaking State of Fire Safety Report and the first edition of the Fire Risk Reduction Guidance for Humanitarian Shelters and Settlements, produced by @KindlingSafety.
On the International Day for Disaster Reduction, it's our pleasure to share to share two documents on fire safety and risk reduction, produced in partnership with @KindlingSafety:
The report, "The State of Fire Safety in Humanitarian Shelter and Settlements: A Story of Unintended Consequences", provides an in-depth analysis of the state of fire safety across the humanitarian sector.

"Fire Risk Reduction Guidance for Humanitarian Shelters and Settlements: 1st Edition" introduces some of the basics of fire science and engineering that should be considered foundational knowledge.

Shaken by the unspeakably awful news from Johannesburg. Another line in the history of fire disasters, which so frequently hit the groups who are already most discriminated against in a society. Building safety must always be for all and is very directly a social justice issue.
Packed room at @CCCMCluster today for our session on Fire 🔥
Exploring @KindlingSafety ‘s holistic, contextualised approach to mitigation, prevention, response and recovery - all about connecting the social & technical. Put people at the centre.
What a way to start the day @CCCMCluster! 🙌
Represented @KindlingSafety at this morning’s marketplace session to talk all things 🔥 #fire 🔥in the #humanitarian sector. Wonderful to connect with CCCM colleagues.
Devastating images showing the extent of destruction from the fire in Kutupalong Camp 11. HT @thatwan
See @KindlingSafety https://t.co/dPFuFzohMh for more on the massive impact of fire on vulnerable people around the world.
@lutfidana@KindlingSafety I agree Lufti. Fire safety for all!
It is not about fancy new technologies, fire safety can also be accomplished with simple ideas around awareness, prevention, and preparedness.
The people who live in this kind of area, more often than not, do not have the option to choose where they live. We need to improve access to fire safety for all.

Forensic Architecture released their new study of the #BeirutPortExplosion using leaked documents, OSI and @KindlingSafety fire dynamics simulations to cast doubt on the widespread claims that shoddy work by Syrian welders caused the fire which triggered the deadly blast.
We asked @KindlingSafety to produce fire dynamics simulations to test our hypothesis that the fire began behind doors 5/6. These closely corresponded to our analysis of videos taken that day, reinforcing our determination that the fire started where no welding work was conducted.
