Pierre Damas Bel was a physiology and neuroscience student at Wright State who had dreams of going to medical school. He was a bright student and cherished community member.

After the Supreme Court allowed Trump to rescind temporary protected status for Haitians, Pierre and dozens of Haitians in Springfield, Ohio were forced to wear ankle monitors. Those close to him say he felt humiliated, was bullied for it, and “treated like an animal.”

His death, which followed the theft of his TPS and the pain of being forced to wear a GPS ankle monitor, is a heartbreaking reminder of the real human consequences of cruel and grotesque immigration policy.
