'After an acquaintance vented to me that their smart, conscientious 18-year-old nephew was having a hard time getting a job at his local supermarket, never mind an apprenticeship, I wanted to see for myself whether the market was really so dire.'
@Sherelle_E_J says getting a part-time role at a supermarket should not feel as convoluted and competitive as applying to Goldman Sachs ⤵️

Found another exceedingly rare example of still existing Caribbean Received Pronunciation! Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ new Governor-General, Sir Stanley John, speaks in an (admittedly rather toned down) Caribbean RP accent
@botzarelli It's a small-scale scandal. I used to speak to schools somewhat regularly, and the children were always surprised to hear when I said that A-level law would materially harm their chances of getting into many legal careers.
It seems to be widely mis-sold.
The era of unprovable AI writing just ended.
Starting August 2, every new Claude model weaves an invisible watermark into the words it generates. Copy it, paste it into an email, a blog post, a college essay, and the watermark travels with the text. Anthropic will publish the detection method so anyone can check, which means your professor, your boss, and the platform you post on can all run the same test you can.
Here's the part almost nobody knows. Google has been doing this to Gemini since 2024. Every Gemini answer you've read for two years carried a hidden signature, and Google barely mentioned it. Claude joining means the two most-used writing models on earth now sign their own work.
Think about what this ends. The entire appeal of AI writing was deniability. Your cover letter, your LinkedIn post, your term paper, your "personal" apology email. Nobody could ever prove a machine wrote it, and everyone quietly relied on that. The labs themselves just decided to hand out the proof.
The mechanism is the wild part. The model tilts its word choices according to a secret key, and across a few hundred words those tilts form a pattern a detector can confirm.
The writing carries its own confession in the sentence structure.
Paraphrase hard enough and it washes out. Short snippets slip through too. But the default just flipped. AI text used to be innocent until proven guilty.
Now it ships pre-confessed.
Aston Villa forward Rory Wilson is a target for Sirius as they seek a replacement for Robbie Ure. Wilson and Ure have a similar profile and background which has alerted Sirius. IFK Goteborg are also interested in Wilson. #AVFC#Sirius#IFK
Hopefully Sirius will purchase from the British markets some more. Robbie Ure is a great example of how some short dedicated work can lead to great things. #allsvenskan
🗞️ Boreham Wood have rejected a £750,000 bid from Swedish side Djurgardens for winger Abdul Abdulmalik. (via @skysports_sheth)
How can a national league side turn down £750k 😂😂😂
Visited M&S’s newest and largest ever, stand-alone food hall today. Just look at the Rose fridge and the water fridge 🤩 My fridge at home is now full of the former 😁🥂plus some rather yummy food 👏
I had a quick look at #FIFA's press release on its plan to sell a share of its commercial revenues to investors for 'development' purposes.
Here is my interpretation of FIFA's plan, its aims and what it tells us about the ultra-commodification of modern football.

The biggest Sports Syndicate, Starlizard, makes $600M/year
for comparison, the biggest Polymarket whale has made $21M total.
There are levels to this game. To give you an idea, Starlizard made it's founder Tony Bloom (pictured below) so rich that he bought his own Football club.
Sports Syndicates operate basically like Quant desks but for sports betting. Their pipeline goes something like that :
1 - Human analysts and local sources collect proprietary information (social engeneering, club insiders ...)
2 - Models convert that information into fair probabilities for scorelines, handicaps and totals.
3 - "Selectors" compare those probabilities with market prices and choose and size the trades.
4 - Execution teams route orders through global brokers and accounts without revealing the full position.
Step 4 is where a lot of their edge is.
Sportsbook are notorious for banning accounts that are too profitable so it's not like they could open an account named "Starlizard" and keep farming the bookmakers for $600M/year.
They would just get banned instantly
Instead they take care to mask their presence, splitting their portfolio around hundreds of accounts, routing their orders through 3rd parties and dozens of exchanges etc.
Their favorite outlets include :
- Networks of mules on retail Sportsbooks (fake account, the account owner gets revenue share in exchange for KYC)
- Specialized brokers that route their orders through multiple asian exchanges.
- Most recently, sockpuppets accounts on Prediction Markets
You probably saw some of their accounts on Polymarket. They are those weird accounts that bet $5M on a single match and then never make a trade again.
I included some accounts that i suspect below. Slop posters like to pretend that they belong to some bored degen billionaires but reality is more complex than that.
This is hilarious. Whilst Keir Starmer was resigning inside Buckingham Place, the royal band was playing a medley of Murray Gold’s Doctor Who music. Here is a clip of I Am the Doctor which you can just about hear in the background on the news.
